There are more than 30 covered bridges in the Williamette Valley of Oregon.

According to the Oregon Covered Bridge Society, many of Oregon's hand built, original covered bridges were financed by tolls: 3 cents for sheep, 5 cents for a horse and rider.

Wooden bridges were covered to keep the huge truss timbers dry. A covered bridge could last 80 years; an uncovered bridge would deteriorate in less than a decade.

During four hours on a beautiful Friday, I managed to capture four of the bridges and their beautiful surroundings.
